Atanas Alexandrov Atanassov is a Bulgarian painter and illustrator whose work is steeped in poetic symbolism and classical technique. A graduate of the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts, he works in tempera, watercolor and pencil, drawing inspiration from both traditional Bulgarian iconography and the great masters of the Renaissance. Since the early 1990s he has collaborated with tarot-publisher Lo Scarabeo, illustrating decks that carry a refined, art-historical sensibility.
